Objective:The aim of the study was to explore the relationships of osteoprotegerin and postmenopausal(PMOP) osteoporosis in the Common TCM syndrome types,to disscuss the relativity of osteoporosis and postmenopausal osteoporotic TCM syndrome,in order to find the theory basis of the diagnosis and differentiation of TCM syndromes of PMOP.Methods:139 postmenopausal women cames from Physical Examination Center, Fujian Provincial Hospital, were selected from December 2009 to April 2010.They have neither serious cardiovascular disease nor any bone metabolic disease, and have never used any bone metabolic drug for six months. According to the principles of the differentiation of syndromes in traditional Chinese medicine, they were divided into three syndrome types, namely Spleen-Kidney-yang deficiency syndrome, liver-kidney-yin deficiency syndrome, Qi-deficiency and Blood-stasis Syndrome. In other way, total 139 patients are also devided into three groups:normal group 24 cases, osteopenia group 31cases,osteoporosis group 84 cases, according to the bone mineral density(BMD) on anterior-posterior position lumbar 2-4 vertebra body which was measured by dual energy X-ray absorptiometry; There was no significant difference in age distribution, menopausal time, blood pressure, serum calcium, serum phosphate, body mass index(BMI,P>0.05) among the groups. The osteoprotegerin were detected with ELISA method. The variable inherent relationship of osteoprotegerind,BMD and E2 in different syndrome types were analyzed with analysis of variance.Results:①Serum OPG,BGP,ALP levels in osteoporosis group were higher than in normal group, osteopenia group, osteopenia group were higher than that of normal group, there were significant differences(P<0.05).②Serum OPG showed significant positive relation to age (coefficient correlation r is 0.999, coefficient of determination R2 is 0.997).③TCM normal distribution in the normal group, osteopenia group, osteoporosis group, basically the same, the difference was not significant(P> 0.05).④The mean age in the Qi-deficiency and Blood-stasis Syndrome was older than that in Spleen-Kidney-yang deficiency group, Spleen-Kidney-yang deficiency group is older than that of liver-kidney-yin deficiency group.⑤Serum OPG in the Qi-deficiency and Blood-stasis Syndrome was higher than Spleen-Kidney-yang deficiency group, Spleen-Kidney-yang deficiency was highter than that of liver-kidney-yin deficiency group, the differences were significant (non-parametric test approximate P<0.05);Conclusions:①OPG has a positive correlation with BGP and ALP, and OPG has a close relationship with postmenopausaI osteoporosis.②There is nonexistent evidence base of the correlation between TCM and BMD③The levels of osteoprotegerin may be regarded as the objective examinational indexes to distinct the blood stasis due to stagnancy of qi types with the rest syndrome types.④The change from deficiency of kidney-yang to blood stasis due to stagnancy of qi in the syndrome type may be a critical component in the pathological succession of postmenopausal osteoporosis.
