| Emotional intelligence is a competence that enables us to perceive ourselves and the external environment. It mainly consists of four aspects, including the evaluation and expression of emotional consciousness, the promotive effect of emotion on thinking, the comprehension and analysis of emotion and the management of emotion. Emotional intelligence plays an even more significant role in the growth and progress of college students than intelligence.Based on the Emotional Intelligence Theory came up by Mayer and Salovey, this paper has summarized the current situation and the development tendency of college students' emotional intelligence through a great deal of document study. take the undergraduate students from a famous university in Dalian as research object. The researcher summarizes the data and comes up with the emotional intelligence characteristics of present college students. Besides, the researcher separately studies the data of different grade, major, sex and student leader. Conclusion is finally made through analyzing the differences among the data and analysis about how these differences come into being is made with abundant words. This research has also discovered some problems existing in the cultivation of college students' emotional intelligence, such as the lack of education on emotional intelligence, the indifference of the society and the delay of guidance on students. Based on these problems, this paper has come up with the countermeasure to cultivate and promote college students' emotional intelligence, which will help to perfect the educational mechanism and enhance the self guidance of college students.
