The Research On Ancient Maps Of Ningxia

The ancient map of Ningxia is an important part of China’s classical document. Arranging and studying them have an important value to the study of history and geography of Ningxia.Though collecting, arranging, analyzing and researching the maps, we can explore the characteristics and laws of the Ningxia ancient maps and historical and geographical development of Ningxia.The ancient maps of Ningxia are the maps which were painted in history with the geographic information of Ningxia. From the scope of the map, the maps of Ningxia are mainly divided into national maps with Ningxia geography, area maps with Ningxia geography and the Ningxia subject maps. From the cases handed down of maps, the ancient maps of Ningxia are divided into three types which are single maps, the maps in atlas and the maps which exist as illustrations in other documents. The object of study are maps about Ningxia which appeared before the Qing Dynasty and the Qing Dynasty (local chronicles maps can be extended to the Republic). The methodology in this research is an integration of the induction, analysis, statistics and research method.I try to sort out the various maps of difference historical periods in Ningxia and analyze the background, achievements, characteristics and laws in the progress of emergence and development of maps. We can find some differences. Before the Song Dynasty, there are many maps about Ningxia.Because of social unrest and the limitations of maps, most of maps were not survived. On the Song Dynasty and the Yuan Dynasty, maps got a lot of progress in content and style. A large number of results which reflect the geography of Xixia and the surrounding area of Xixia; On the Ming Dynasty and the Qing Dynasty, the development of the maps enters into a boom phase.The results mainly reflected in two aspects which are border maps of Ningxia on the Ming Dynasty and atlas on the Qing Dynasty. In addition, there is a large number of maps which reflect the history and geography of Ningxia in local chronicles. The maps are mass in distribution, similar in style, large in number and variety, and rich in content.which are important parts of the ancient maps of Ningxia. The paper tries to sort out and analyze maps in local chronicles to find the development laws, the presence situation, the compilation traits and the value.
