Chinese economic growth is slowing down, economic downward pressure is more and more prominent. Due to overcapacity, as well as the nation and people pay more attention to the environmental protection, the development of iron and steel industry is particularly great pressure. To improve the quality and benefit, iron and steel enterprises need take the initiative to do subtraction, production control, cost reduction and reduce emissions to adapt to the new economic normality; Iron and steel enterprises also need take the initiative to do addition, firmly stabilize the existing market, and to seek new growth point of enterprise development.At present, Shuicheng steel group, the sintering raw materials mainly rely on import and it is imperative to develop domestic ore which is convenient and cheap source. In order to effectively reduce the sintering and smelting cost, improving the ratio of low grade, complicated composition iron ore is very important in the sinter process. In this paper, based on the sintering production of shuicheng steel group, main researches are as follows:① The particles are very fine and the water content is very high in iron concentrated and rich ore fines. And these two kinds of ore have poor hydrophilicity, there are hard to adhere in the process of mixing granulating. The performance of mixing and granulating is ordinary with Indian iron ore powder, Chinese iron ore powder and calcined. The performance of Australian ore powder and Iran iron powder is better. The grade of siderite was lower and burning loss was serious, it isn’t conducive to sintering.② According to the existing production conditions Shuicheng Iron & Steel Group, a single sintering experiment and the blending optimization of sintering experiment are designed. The performance of sintering with single ore powder can provide a reference for mixed sintering experiment. In order to reduce the production cost, the research of adding low grade and complex composition of iron ore is carried out. The basic characteristics of raw materials, the granulation property of sintering blend, the physical and metallurgical properties of iron ore sinter have been investigated.The results show that, in the current raw material and fuel condition of Shuicheng steel group, adding converter slag is helpful for sintering liquid solidification and the best addition amount is 3%. Adding amount of iron concentrated is no more than 20%. Decreasing Iran iron ore powder to control the harmful elements, such as Pb, Zn, K2 O, Na2 O, the best addition amount is 4-5%. The best addition amount of Indian iron ore and Australian iron ore are 14% and 17%. Siderite should not be excessively added and the best addition amount is under 3%.③ The calculation model of ore blending optimization about the sinter in Shuicheng steel group is designed. The ore matching cost minimum is set as the objective function, the mixed ores component and alkalinity constraints are set as constraint conditions in the model. The genetic algorithm is selected to calculate in the model and then a software system about the model is developed for sintering mixture calculation. This software can constrain the composition, alkalinity and raw materials and calculate the lowest cost of ingredients scheme for satisfying the constraints. At present, research results have been applied in sintering production in Shuicheng steel group.
