ObjectivesThe purpose of the study was to investigate the current health literacy status and to analyze public health literacy’s effect factors of the residents in Bao Shan district through investigating public health literacy status, to screen the individuals or groups with low level of health literacy and to provide the evidence for development of health education and health promotion.MethodsAfter multistage stratified cluster and random sampling,600 residents were selected to complete the face-to-face survey. The health literacy questionnaire for Chinese citizen in 2012 was designed by National Centers of Health Education.ResultsThe proportion of the residents with health literacy was 3.67%. The proportions of the residents with correct knowledge and health concepts, healthy lifestyle and behavior, health literacy skills were 46.83%,24.33%and 47.50%, respectively. The proportion of the residents with information acquisition, correct view of health, safety and first aid, communicable disease prevention, basic medical literacy, chronic disease prevention were 73.83%.73.67%,71.50%.42.00%、21.00%、20.67%, respectively. Education level and annual income were the main factors influencing the health literacy of the residents.ConclusionIt is necessary to enhance the popularization of health literacy of the residents in Bao Shan, in the aspects of chronic disease prevention and basic medical care.
