After the Third Plenary Session of 18th CPC, China steps into a new economy development era. A growing number of transportation and exchanges are widely launched, which makes civil aviation play a very important role in economy. So many kinds of new aircraft and equipment will be introduced. Because of this, much pre-job training referring to new types of aircraft and equipment will be hosted. Because China is not a major aircraft manufacturer, and most manufacturer nations take English as the working language, many translation and interpretation tasks will be launched because of language and communication obstacles.Different industries take different standards, so does civil aviation industry, which ranks safety and security as the very first topic, so higher standards are necessary and mandatory.Compared with other different interpreting projects, this report is based on the training project of "Cathay Pacific Airlines Boeing 747 Cargo version", a pre-job training project of Air China Southwest Branch. In order to save cost and time, this training project adopts remote education mode, so that the trainer could communicate with the audiences in video through the Internet. To the interpreter, how to face up this kind of interpreting task, how to ensure the interpreting quality and how to cooperate with the trainer and the audiences are very challenging. Normally, interpreters should stay in the neutral position during interpreting. Nevertheless, the characteristics of civil aviation training and particularity of this training project, including requirements for civil aviation English interpreting, the characteristics of the trainees and the special training method adopted in this training project, make the interpreter take ’non-neutral’ position, and play special roles during the actual interpreting. It is precisely because the interpreter of this project is one of the civil aviation employees who own rich experience in civil aviation translating and interpreting experiences that makes this training project a satisfactory result. After careful classification and detailed analysis of special characteristics of civil aviation English, including professional words, items and abbreviations, helped the interpreter lay necessary foundation for the success of the interpreting of this project. Then, throughout further discussion and analysis, the author of this report extracted four key elements of the training project, including close contacts with the trainer, careful collection of glossary, precise transference of picture information and thorough understanding of the audiences’questions. Finally, the author naturally developed some conclusions at the end of this report. The visibility of the interpreter in civil aviation training is a unique feature. Besides, the interpreter will play the special roles of a message carrier, a communicator, a trainer, a coordinator and a profit producer. What’s more, the interpreter should take the’non-neutral’position in interpreting. All these above points are what the author suggests for those who will do the similar civil aviation training projects.
