In modern times, with the further communication and the culture collision of the West and China, as an important medium of communication, English entered into China in the early 19 th century. Furthermore, it entered into our curriculum education system in the mid-19 th century. Southern Jiangsu Province, which is easy to accept new ideas and new things, paid more attention to the English and made it developed quickly. Meanwhile,it becomes the forefront of the new National Education Development. Not only made the sustainable development of its clan education, Southern Jiangsu also attached great importance to English education, and had achieved a certain degree of educational outcomes. Therefore, research on English education of Southern Jiangsu’s clan school has a typical significance in the whole country.Just as based on the above consider, the paper takes “A Study on English Education of Southern Jiangsu’s Clan Schools in Republic of China Center on Hu’s Clan School in Tianshou Village in Wuxi” as the research subject, and takes the English education of clan schools as the object, which based on its social background and the relevant literature about family tree of the clan and the books of its school anniversary. Through logical analysis and case study method, author wants to analyze clan schools’ English objectives, arrangements, teaching materials, teaching methods, teachers and students,and summarize its experience and shortage so that to find out the new experience to fill in the development of English education nowadays.After exploring the English education of southern Jiangsu’s clan schools, we can get the following enlightenments: First,the development of clan school’ s English education is closely related to its regional cultural and educational ethos. The new schools which create by clans have provided a good environment for the development of its English education. Second, during the Republic of China, the developmental trajectories of English education of southern Jiangsu’s clan schools are not the same. Because of the different educational systems, curriculum standards and the impact of the social environment, English education of clan schools experienced three stages: period of imitation and starting, period of exploring and development and period of tortuous development. In different stages, there are different teaching methods and teaching materials. Third, English education of southern Jiangsu’s clan schools have both various school types and well quality of teachers, which is relatively high quality of education in whole country at that time.
