| Biography is a kind of narrative non-fiction,which is a literary genre with dual characteristics of "documentary" and "literature".In recent years,numerous excellent literature works abroad produce great influence internationally.At present,there are few systematic researches on the translation of narrative non-fiction in China.Charles William Eliot is a biography about one of the presidents of Harvard in history.The biography contains two volumes,which is of great research and translation value.The translator takes the fifteenth chapter of the second volume for practice,and this translation report based on it.Some translation methods will be discussed in this report on biography literature under the guidance of Text Typology,in order to find ideal translation strategies to solve the difficulties encountered during translation,and improve the quality of the translated version as well.In this report,the translator mainly discusses the problems such as how to choose correct words,translate long sentences and deal with some obstacles.Theoretically,this report proves that Newmark’s text typology is a feasible theory for guiding studies on the biograph literature translation.The report provides more flexible translation methods and solutions for various difficulties during translation process,including how to overcome differences between Chinese and English in syntactic structure,grammar rule and expressing habit caused by the cultural differences.In this way,it makes the translated version easy to be understood and accepted by Chinese readers.There are five components in this translation report.The first part introduces the research background of this study.The second part is the task description,introducing the types of the selected text and language features.The third is the description of the translation process,demonstrates the process of preparation and translation to the task.The fourth part is case analysis,reflects the typical problems and theoretical reflection(text typology)translation problems and solving process of the source text.The fifth part is a summary of the whole translation practice,is mainly about the reflection of the unsolved problems in the process of translation,and considerations for the future research. |
