Tourism as an important part of the national economy, the rapid development of tourism not only brings considerable economic income to China, but also generates increasing carbon emissions, resulting in a lot of emissions of greenhouse gas, which has become one of the important reasons of global warming. How to realize the low-carbon development of tourism while ensuring the sustainable growth of tourism economy is an important subject to be discussed urgently. As a key issue to reveal the degree of correlation between CO2 emissions and tourism economic growth, the essence of tourism carbon emission decoupling is to measure whether tourism development is at the cost of resource consumption and environmental damage. It is of great significance to explore the decoupling relationship between tourism carbon emission and tourism economy, and to clarify the influencing factors of the decoupling relationship for the low-carbon development of China’s tourism industry. Therefore, this paper first estimated the carbon emission of tourism industry, and on this basis, further explored the decoupling state between the carbon emission of tourism industry and the economic growth of tourism industry in China. Finally, the paper decomposed and analyzed the direction and degree of the influencing factors of carbon emission decoupling in tourism industry, and proposed corresponding measures and recommendations,so as to provide relevant reference for formulating feasible carbon reduction measures.Firstly, based on the relevant studies on tourism carbon emission and tourism decoupling, this paper gave an overview and systematically combed the current status of carbon emissions research in tourism industry of domestic and foreign.Besides, based on the definition of carbon emission in tourism industry and other related concepts, the paper explained the low-carbon economy theory, sustainable development theory and decoupling theory. And it also introduced the research methods involved in this paper, which provided a strong theoretical support for follow-up research.Secondly, based on the"top-down"method,the paper estimated the carbon emissions in tourism industry and analyzed the differences in time and space region. At the same time, with the help of Theil Index, the regional differences have been analyzed of carbon emissions in China’s tourism industry.Combining with the Tapio decoupling model and ESDA-GIS,the spatial and temporal evolution characteristics and spatial correlation of carbon emission decoupling index in 30 provinces were studied. Finally, the factor decomposition method of LMDI was adopted to decompose the influencing factors into four parts:energy structure effect, technology effect, economic effect and tourist scale effect. This paper explored the influencing factors of carbon emission decoupling index in tourism industry from different levels in China, three major regions and 30 provinces, and proposed corresponding suggestions and measures, which can serve as a reference for developing low-carbon in tourism industry of China.
