This project is a practical report on English-Chinese translation. The text of the project is selected from the book The Climate Crisis: South African and Global Democratic Eco-Socialist Alternatives. This book, edited by professor Vishvas Statgar and co-written by 14 writers, tells the story of the increasing climate crisis caused by people’s infringement of Mother Earth’s rights, which has triggered people’s deep thoughts and made changes at the political and economic levels. This author takes the translation of Chapters 5 and Chapter 6 of the book The Climate Crisis:South African and Global Democratic Eco-Socialist Alternatives as the research object, selects specific cases for analysis, and summarizes the solutions to the problems and difficulties encountered in the translation practice, that is,how to better handle the translation of words and sentences according to the context.Peter Newmark’s core translation theory was used in translation practice.First, from the perspective of semantic translation, there are translation strategies that accurately indicate the meaning of words and retain the original style.Second,From the perspective of communicative translation, there are translation strategies such as adding /removing vocabulary, changing sentence patterns flexibly, adding word interpretation and annotation, and part-of-speech conversion. Finally, the combination of semantic translation and communicative translation is reflected. The experience is put into the report, with a view to providing guidance for the translator’s related translation work in the future, and hopes to provide reference and reference for other translators engaged in such translations.
