The purpose of this report is to provide relevant medical information for breast cancer patients and as reference for medical English translation,especially for breast cancer English translation.The development of globalization witnesses the increasing demand for medical exchanges in which translation plays an indispensable role.In the field of medicine,cancer has always been a problem to be solved,and the incidence of breast cancer ranks the first among female malignant tumors.Western countries,led by the United States,are relatively advanced in the treatment of breast cancer,which is worthy of reference for domestic-related medical research.The translation practice is about the translation of subtitles and text of videos about breast cancer,involving medical knowledge of breast cancer screening and treatment,aiming at providing information related to advanced foreign breast cancer treatment for patients.This report is divided into five parts.The first part states the background and significance of the study,and the translation task of this practice.The second part elaborates the general process of translation practice from the aspects of pre-translation,in-translation and post-translation.The third part introduces Peter Newmark’s and Katharina Reiss’ s theories and analyzes the applicability of their theories to this practice.According to the text type theory of Newmark and Reiss,the subtitles of this video is classified into informational text,vocative text and audio-medial text.The fourth part combines Newmark’s semantic translation theory and communicative translation theory to analyze the translation from the lexical,sentence,and textual levels.The fifth part is the author’s reflection in this practice as well as the limitations.
