| For more than three years, the epidemic has swept the world, posing a serious threat to public physical health and a significant and persistent negative impact on public mental health. The COVID-19 will remain a major global event for quite some time to come, and will continue to affect people’s health and lives. We need to understand the possible negative psychological impact of the epidemic, and be aware of the prevention and response strategies. The translation practice material is from chapters 5,15,and 17 of the book Mental Health Effects of COVID-19,which was written by Ahmed A.Moustafa Ph.D.and published on June 29,2021.The book provides a comprehensive analysis of the mental health problems caused by COVID-19,including depression, suicidality, trauma, and post-traumatic stress disorder(PTSD).The impact of the epidemic on individuals, families, and society is explained in detail. It also introduces how to intervene and treat psychological distress related to COVID-19 through therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy. The source text is EST(English for science and technology),which aims to convey the information accurately and clearly to the reader. Therefore,I choose the Variational Translation Theory by Professor Huang Zhonglian to solve the problems in the translation process.Using the Variational Translation Theory as a guide, the practice can enrich the practical application of the theory, broaden its research field, promote its development, and further verify the guiding role of the theory in the translation of medical texts such as psychology.Through the translation of this book,it is hoped that domestic experts and scholars can learn advanced medical concepts and techniques from other countries, thus promoting the research of psychological distress related to the COVID-19 and contributing to its treatment. |
