It is a Chinese-English translation practice report. The source text of this report is excerpted from the travel notes《日夜兼程,去看更多风景》(China Travel Notes),with a focus on regional specialties, dialects, architecture, geographical features, local customs, history and culture of South China. In the process of this translation practice, the author mainly combines Variational Translation Theory proposed by Professor Huang Zhonglian, and employes seven adaptation techniques, including adding, deleting, narrating, condensing, integrating, editing and altering at lexical, syntactic and textual levels. It aims to translate in order to bring into play the informative and appealing function of tourism texts and achieve the effect of tourism publicity abroad.Besides, the author finds that the focus of the translation of travel notes is on the delivery of information, different adaptation techniques are adopted at different linguistic levels, and the theory can be used to guide the translation of travel notes. At the same time, when the translator pursues information equivalence,it will inevitably result in a lack of equivalence in the style and linguistic form of the translation. Also, the actual needs of the target readers or the translation market may be ignored. In conclusion,in the era of knowledge explosion and rapid development of artificial intelligence, translators should translate not only correctly but exactly, and develop the habit of lifelong learning.
