As a key issue in education and teaching, classroom instruction methods have a far-reaching influence on promoting classroom instruction, inducting students to the better learning and all-round development.Positive Classroom Instruction, written by American psychologist Dr.Fredric H.Jones, belongs to the book of teaching methods and management.Chapters 1-3 of the book were selected as source text of the translation practice. The translation volume reaches 12,846 words which meets the requirements of this translation practice.Guided by Variational Translation Theory, the source text is translated into English and the translator analyzed and summarized the translation process.Variational Translation Theory is an activity that aims at deriving the relevant contents concerned of the original by using the appropriate seven adaptation techniques such as adding, deleting, editing, narrating, condensing, integrating, altering and imitating in order to meet the specific needs of readers.By analyzing the concrete texts and adopting the following reasonable adaptation techniques, the problems encountered in the translation process can be effectively solved. The adoption of the two major translation measures of “deleting” and “condensing” can reduce the reading burden of readers and make the translation more succinct. The use of the two major translation measures of “editing” and “narrating” will make the translation more analytical and concise. The two major translation measures of“adding” and “altering” are adopted to make the expression of the word more integrity and smooth for the sentence, thereby enhancing the readability of the translation. In addition, the proper application of Variational Translation Theory can also effectively solve the problems of inadequate understanding of proper nouns, unnatural expression of the translation, and large proportion of long and difficult sentences. Moreover, through this translation practice, the translator has gained further understanding into the practical application of Variational Translation Theory. In this translation practice, the author selects excellent foreign books on teaching methods as translation materials, which can increase domestic teachers’ knowledge of classroom instruction,so as to guide classroom instruction more effectively and improve students’ learning efficiency.Synthesis utilization of various variation translation measures in the translation of instruction books provides more suitable translation techniques for this kind of books. In addition, this translation practice report on translation practice is intended to provide practical cases for the instruction of master’s degrees in translation and interpretation, providing a useful reference for translators who are in the field of educational translation.
