| The tourism industry is a major force in promoting rural vitalization.To develop the local tourism sector,the Bureau of Culture,Radio,Television,Tourism and Sports of Tonglu County,a prefecture of Hangzhou,east China’s Zhejiang Province has unveiled a travel guide titled TONGLU: A Poetic Land.Travel guide,as an important tourism material,is a book of information and description of a place designed for the use of visitors or tourists.Therefore,the translation of travel guide should be clear,achieve the descriptive and vocative function,and effectively convey tourism-related information to aid tourists in making informed decisions.This report,based on the translation of Tonglu travel guide,aims to examine the difficulties and explore possible methods in the English translation of Chinese travel guide.The author adopts Variational Translation Theory as guidance and employs various adaptation techniques to enhance the quality of the translated text.The report begins with an introduction to the background and significance of this translation project,and delves into the Variational Translation Theory,as well as the development of tourism translation.The translation process is also described in detail.Most importantly,the report showcases the application of the Variational Translation Theory through case studies.It analyzes such adaptation techniques as adding,deleting,editing,condensing,integrating and altering with examples given and finds that,the use of these techniques enabled the translated text to align with the aesthetic preferences of foreign tourists and fulfill their specific information requirements. |
