The most concerned problems in geotechnical engineering are Informatization and Visualization of mining engineering and its geological characteristics. During the past several past years, the mining engineers worked hard and got a great result. However, Informatization and visualization of mine are confronted with lots of problem, such as, managing geological data with difficulties for lack criterion, expressing complex geological body with difficulties for complexity and coupling with modeling and numerical simulation with difficulties of mine geological engineering. To these problems, based on data management, modeling of geology and visualization, digital mine information system is discussed. The main jobs of this paper are as follows:1. The main frame of digital mine information system is analyzed and designed according to design principle of geographic information system. The aims of digital mine information system are mine geological data management , 3D-modeling of mine diggings and visualization, and mining engineering application.2. Based on cognizing and acquiring of mine geological data and theirs characteristics, standard data format for 3D geological phenomena of mine is brought forward to manage mine data information and system analyze scientifically.3. According to characteristics of mine geological engineering ,function module of database was designed, with relation database managing huge capacity geological data and with advanced accessing technique of database ADO(ActiveX Date Object) connecting database and application program.4. Mine geological phenomena was abstracted several objects, such as point, line, surface, body according to theirs characteristics. Based on information of mine engineering section plane, a data model is put forward, including node, line, outline of geological body, geological surface, simple geological body. With this data model, not only stratified rock(soil) masses, but also unstratified rock masses can be build 3D-model conveniently.5. The modeling algorithm with information of engineering section is discussed in detail. The data model is constructed by scatter data point and outline of geological body as original data, after interpolating spatially, dividing with TIN, intersecting of surface.6. Based on visualization toolkit (vtk), 3D visualization system is constructed for mining engineering. To connect visualization with engineering design and numerical simulation, interface program of AutoCAD,2D discrete element method software(UDEC) is completed.
