Many have come to realize in recent years the importance of reducing the natural disasters impact that is increasing day by day. Yet, as disaster management is a cross-cutting and complex issue, it needs political and legal commitment, public awareness, scientific knowledge, serious development planning, enforcement of the policies and codices, well functioning and modern mechanisms of early warning systems, as well as sufficient disaster preparedness and respond mechanisms.This paper studies natural disasters management from the UN perspective. The UN plays a prominent role in the world and places great importance on the subject matter. It has already done significant work in the sphere of disaster management.The paper aims to point out the impact of natural disasters on development and poverty reduction, while introducing instruments and methods on how to manage natural disaster risk in order to achieve sustainable development without creating new risks and jeopardizing current poverty reduction and development efforts.The first paragraph of this paper defines what is a natural disaster, how to understand natural disaster management, its tools and concepts.Having recent natural disasters as reference, this paragraph discloqses the severe effects that natural disasters have on people (the poor in particular) and the Millennium Development Goals, and intends to find the causes of disasters. The last part of the first paragraph introduces several UN agencies and actions taken by them in the field of natural disasters management.The second paragraph talks about the links between natural disasters and poverty reduction. It shows the interactions between natural disasters, poverty and vulnerability and then introduces concepts and methods for better integration of natural disasters management into poverty reduction measures.The third paragraph introduces relations between natural disasters and development, natural disaster reduction measures and development policies/planning. First, it shows the interaction between natural disasters and development, then talks about the links and interactions between natural disaster reduction and development assistance, as well as natural disaster reduction and development planning, how to better integrate natural disaster reduction into development planning and policies.The fourth paragraph introduces UN's work in mainstreaming natural disasters management in fields like armed conflict, urbanization, climate change and gender. Each part of this paragraph first talks about the links between natural disasters and the specified field, and then continues with introducing the UN's agenda concerning the stated issue.The fifth paragraph introduces a series of methods and tools for natural disasters management. It starts with the local level and community, and then expands to the state level and, finally, the global level focusing on the Millennium Development Goals.
