Agile manufacturing is the inevitable choice of strategy model for enterprises who commit to fast-changing market demands and maximum competitiveness. In real life manufacturing system, ownership and utilization of the manufacturing resources are unevenly distributed among the enterprises. Therefore, to understand why the enterprises would form network alliances based on agile manufacturing strategy, one has to find the answers from the distribution of manufacturing resources in manufacturing systems and from the configurations of manufacturing resources in the enterprises.This article, using the enterprise agility vector system, has first of all analyzed the optimized resource configurations for manufacturing enterprises, then it has subsequently drawn the pioneering conclusion that the aspiration for the most competitive resource configurations and combinations is the fundamental motive behind the formation of network alliances based on agile manufacturing strategy. The process of studying how the manufacturing system meets the market demands is thus actually the process of defining the maximum competitive combinations of manufacturing resources. While the network alliance (virtual enterprise) is a dynamic structuring process that is objectively creating common inclinations among the manufacturing enterprises to maximize the marketing competitiveness.To expedite and facilitate the process of finding the most competitive manufacturing resource combinations for decision makers, not only a standard product separation has to be carried out on targeted market demand competitions, but also the available resources have to be standardized and modularized, so that a better comparability can be achieved and the resource configuration process for different demands can be continued.Subsequently, this article has again been the first in applying fuzzy mathematics, currently widely adopted in engineering industry, in the understanding of optimal resource combinations, and proposed the usage of fuzzy synthetical evaluation in finding the most competitive resource combination. Through quantitative synthesizing after qualitative evaluation, and combined with mathematical calculations, the optimal resource combination can be clearly defined. A feasible method for real environment introduced, this article has also addressed the equivalency between the relative indexes drawn from fuzzy synthetical evaluation and overall competitiveness indexes functionality from vector calculations.To put to practice the theory of enterprise alliance on optimized resource configurations, this article has proposed the new concept of "Manufacturing Resources Coordinator Organization"(MRCO), opening up a new front for the promotion of agile manufacturing. Preliminarily addressing the network alliance with MRCO as the leader, this concept has also discussed subjects including the internal operating mechanism and ERP adoptions, establishing the basis from where MRCO theory might evolve into an effective guiding theory on promoting agile manufacturing in practice.Meanwhile, on the other hand, this article has also addressed the relationship between MRCO theory and the foundry model which is emerging from the international manufacturing industry. Based on these theories, this article proposes to Chinese manufacturing industry that they shall have a far-sighted perspective, participate in the global resource re-configuration and configuration optimization, expedite the process of re-configuring the enterprise resources through agile manufacturing, and attract foreign manufacturing industry through the methods like foundry, thus eventually transform China into a "Workshop of the World".At last, this article has used China Academy of Machinery Science and Technology as an example for a mock calculation, with the results reflecting the actual application value of and the equivalency between the vector evaluation of manufacturing resources and fuzzy synthetical evaluation.
