In the 21th Century with the care of environment and sustainable development, the green product research has been the focus of enterprises and academic institutes. Most of the governments are changing the development mode to practice the sustainable development stratagem and stricter environmental protection rules. The market for green products has much brighter foreground. As one of the green products, the green ship has his own characteristics and system. In this paper research has been carried out deeply about it .The main contents are as follows:1.Survey of environmental performance and pollution for a ship is undertaken. On the basis of the grasping the world marine environmental rules and laws, the development and trend for environmental ships and machines has been studied. The emphases is the ship environmental performances assessment system and its assessment method.2. According to the survey the definition of a green ship is presented. Green ship is a new waterway vehicle with green environmental mark. On the basis of technical and economic performances, the design and construction of green ship try to reduce the effect to the environment to the least degree and raise the resources and energy efficient to the highest degree. The three basic characters of a green ship such as technology, environment and economy have been analyzed. The assessment criterions are also given in the meantime.3.Integrating with Life Cycle Assessment and the characters of a green ship, the resource assessment, energy assessment, environmental assessment, labor insurance assessment and management assessment have been expounded. The conception of green degree has been presented and the green assessment system for a ship has been built. According to the shortcoming of absolute standards, the relative standards for assess the green ship have been recommended. The basis ships for assessment can be divided into two types, ie. Basis function ship and basis green degree ship. Some specific guidelines for assessment have been put forward.4.The procedure for the assessment have been divided into six steps, namely defining assessment goal, selecting datum product, limiting assessment scope, inventory analysis, impact assessment and drawing up criterions. In order to increase the maneuverability of the method, some theories such as fuzzy math theory, axiomatic design and value analysis have been introduced in the model of assessment system. Distributed knowledgebase and database model have been also discussed in detailed.5.Air pollution assessment, one of the environmental performance assessments of a ship has been studied in the paper. The composing of ship air pollution and the let coefficient have been analyzed. The value calculation, measuring and sample have been studied with the method of fuzzy control and fuzzy numerical regression. According to different type of ships, the effective let coefficient for ships have been presented. It can be valuable to realize the quantity assessment for environmental performance and green degree.The Combination of the green theory and Marine Engineering is the trend of design and construction of ship. The analysis of the green ship, the establishment of assessment system and the quantity evaluation of ship air pollution build the base of the assessment of green degree for a ship.
