As well as in modern landscape architecture, the latest century has seen a series of evolutions in planting design. The major ones have been demonstrated as the following:(l) The modern landcape planting design bears a much heavier sense of human ecology, leading to increasingly improved means of learning from the law of nature. Novel ideas have been developed in the building of artificial plant communities; still more important achievement is seen in broadening of designing thinking by the protection of biology diversity and sustainable development. (2) The priciple of hominism is developed in modern planting design, in which the functionism of green environment accupies a deserving position. New ideas lay stress on the function of demonstrating the ideology and the culture of the time, as well as the fuctions of offering a relaxing facility. In practice, instead of choosing either picturesque style or Beaux-Art, designings have been employing a much bigger variety of ideas and means to cater for modern human lives. (3) Due to the constant changes of dominant social issue throughout the human history, planting design has also been adapted to solve different key problems in each period of the history. Therefore, the evolution of modern landscape planting designing is necessarily a forever progressing process, never ceasing maturing.China's landscape planting designing possesses a decent tradition of adoring nature and culture; moreover, positive exploration has been made in the designing ideas and means in the latest dozens of years. In order to achieve a brighter prospect, many efforts are expected to make by the practioners.
