Along with the development of architecture ornament vocation and stone machining technology, the variety of profiled surface stones and its machining technology and equipments increase quickly. Therefore the stones machine industry exigently wants multifunctional equipments which functional parts can be replaced. This dissertation aims to develop the basic theory of the design and the virtual design system of profiled surface stones machining equipment. Using this virtual design system for developing stones machining equipment, serial standardized functional parts will be produced. As the equipment is changed, they can do nothing but replace some of the functional parts. As a result this virtual design system can shorten the production cycle, reduce the cost, and enhance the quality of the profiled surface stones machining equipment. The stone equipment enterprise will win in the market competition.The surface profiled principle of different profiled surface stones is firstly researched. The kinematics model of the profiled surface stones machining equipments is established. The kinematics spectrum and the formula of the moving parts reconstitution of the equipments are also presented. This dissertation puts forward the design framework of the virtual design system-Machine Design, and establishes the structure of the software for designing the profiled surface stones machining equipment. The functions of the different parts of the design system are analyzed, and the modularization design flow of the profiled surface stones machining equipment is presented. Finally the human-computer interaction virtual design system called "Machine Design" which sustains the parametric design technology and the database information is made out. It needs such pivotal process to design profiled surface stones machining equipment using this virtual design system, such as conception design, virtual detail design, virtual simulation, the design and manufacture of the equipment and the application of the virtual design system.The conception design of the profiled surface stones machining equipment includes such process as market investingation and requirement analysis, kinematics analysis and design of the equipment, the function analysis of various moving parts, structure analysis, the mapping of the function and structure, the enactment of the main parameter of the equipment etc. This dissertation researches the method of collection and analysis of the consumer requirement information.
