Container transportation is playing a more and more important role and has become an essential transportation procedure in our daily life for its high efficiency, facility and safety. As the number of the liner companies increasing, and the fleet scale still developing, that makes the liner operators in front of tremendous challenge and risk. Under this circumstance, ship owners have to make fully use of the available technical means to improve their management skill and efficiency, to get the reasonable interest as large as possible and reduce cost as well. Much investigation has been done for container vessels operating management, some of them had been adopted in actual operation. But due to limited research field, there is still some space to be fulfilled especially for that on containership.It was widely thought that containership operation is easier than that of tramp vessel. In fact, these two types of vessel have their own distinguished characteristic. As containership has regular voyage, fixed harbor and schedule, which relies on time and space more heavily than tramp one. Actually, container fleet operation is the most challenged work in the field of ship management.This paper began with the analysis on the restrictions and reasons that imposed on containership operation. Then based on the result of collected and research information, compare and analysis was made on the reality of some famous liner companies. One point is raised that to achieve the best beneficial result by resolving the projected trouble, it should establish public information management platform by adopting cutting edge managing theory and technical countermeasure. To achieve efficient control over integrated management and control system, necessary ship information should be collected and analyzed. In view of containership management, the research is based on management information system and geographical information system. And by the means of concept of management and control integration, this paper put emphases on the research of information system between ship and shore.According to the research target and direction, the paper gave the design guide line and major principle, and makes detailed explanations on related management information system, geographical information system, and management and control integration and decision support system. The design principle puts emphases on resource utilization, technical requirements, system flexibility and system safety thus forms the guidance for system implement.Lead by the concept of management and control integration, this paper investigated the procedures to fulfill the data synchronization and to build data connection between ship and shore. All kinds of communication method by the use of IMMSAT were analyzed in detail. Taking data format, cost, speed for transmission and multicast into consideration, a better data acquisition approach was suggested based on the existing onboard facilities by adopted highly advanced automatic data transmission equipment with better reliability. It can absolutely solve the key problem which once reduced the probability of collecting the right ship position.For ship operating management, the paper introduced a total solving package with three sub systems. The key point is integration for all the collected data and all actual sub system functions. These functions derive from the actual work flow at operator's requirements in every daily operation module. For the reason of the most advanced concept being introduced to the system platform, the system functions can reflect the ship owner's requirement and his concern. For example, work order is used in recent ship maintenance system, the form for spare parts management and for in time ship position monitoring. At the same time, in virtue of decision support functions, a series of modules were built, which can play an important role in improving management efficiency and upgrading the executive strength for safety and cost control.The information resource is widely used in forming the whole system of the ship and shore information system, combining the containership operation features with all sub information system the platform of ship and shore information system comes into being by adopting all the priority of all the sub systems. That has been proved to be successful in developing some function in both hardware and software system.This paper checked all the work from data collecting and handling to containership operation. Considering the character of containership operation, the key point is pro actual applications. Each the method raised in this paper was from the point view of the real operator. As the container industry developing so fast, the new product and technology can bring a brand new evolution to containership management which being same as blood circulation to our brain, body and health. The reliable information system should keep the pace as the containership develops. Through continuing upgrading and innovation, the ship and shore information system will be turned out as the foundation of the enterprise's development.
