Electric grid is one of the most important domains in the power system, so the automation level of management in the electric grid will determine the automation level of the whole power system. With the improvement of the management requirements of electric grid and development of technique, the gap between what the operators of power systems are supposed to do and what they are able to is becoming more and more larger. Because of this, how to decrease the gap is the key to improve the automation level of power systems.The author of this thesis made the research in this domain, and proposed the electric-grid-information- management-oriented visualization solution (EGIMOVS). From the basic properties of the information in electric grid, the author sought for the general requirements of information management in the electric grid, investigated the basic characters in the mental process of the operators, and at last found the four gists that disturbed the usage of the software system in the information management of the electric grid. The four ones are that they may not display the information effectively, they have not enough interactions between the operators and the software system, they may only support the low level of information display, they are absent from the uniform structure of data in the system.According to these four gists, the author proposed five relevant methods, as three-dimension geographical information system, virtual reality, visualization in scientific computing, levels of detail, and the union of two-dimension systems and three-dimension ones, which were integrated into the conceptual framework of information management of the electric grid. After the conceptual framework, the author abstracted the common elements from the construction of software systems based on that conceptual framework, and formed the practical framework by using the technique of software architecture. The conceptual and practical framework interacted with each other to a whole EGIMOVS.For giving an example to exhibit the usage of EGIMOVS and what should be paid attention to, the author used the EGIMOVS to analyze and design an information system in the management of transmission lines. The process of software development based on EGIMOVS was introduced. And the difference between this process and the traditional one was compared at the same time.At last, the author introduced some directions of more deep research of EGIMOVS.
