Abstract: National agricultural standards are playing an important role in agriculture policy implementation legally, agricultural technology promotion & extension, agro-products marketing, and import o(?) export of argro-products trade as well as in development of agricultural economics throughout the world. Under national u(?)gent need of readjustment of argr(?)ultural production structure for furher enhancement of argro-products' quality in China, feeding standards of beef cattle (Project No. 198), meat sheep and meat goat (Project No. 02110) assigned to Institute of Animal Science, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences by Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) are drafted as a main task of this postdoctoral research work under the guide of Directives for standardization Part 1, 2000 Rules for the structure and drafting of standards and ISO/IEC Directives, Part 3, 1997, Rules for the structure and drafting of International Standards,NEQ, followed a comprehensive review of current feeding standards in the world and large sets of research results in China. After comprehensive review about research on feeding and management of beef cattle was made for practical considerations, diverse comments and constructive suggestion from experts in ruminant nutrition and production are throughly absorbed during the drafting of these feeding standards, which is an sound aim to ultimately keep the feeding standards rationality, practicality, and maneuverability for ruminant production situation in China. With this purpose, the feeding standard of beef cattle prescribes recommendatory evaluation methods for estimate of degradability of protein in rumen and yield of rumen microbial protein occurred in small intestine. The combined net energy (Nemf) and intestinal digestiable protein (IDCP) of feedstuffs are adopted to decrible amounts of energy and protein supply for beef cattle classified into different physiological stage with different production levels. Additonally, nutritional parameters of limited amino acids requirement as well as ideal amino acid patterns are put into feeding standard of beef cattle as reference for beef production in practice. The metabolism energy (ME) and IDCP requirements are parally tabulated together with both crude protein (CP) and digestible crude protein (DCP) for meat sheep and meat goat classified into different physiological stage with different production levels, which gives more choice of making ration formula for farmer and intensive feeding farm. Neutral detergent fiber (NDF) and acid detergent fiber (ADF) of feedstuffs in feed nutrition value tables are listed together with crude fiber parameter as reference for users in application diet formulation. These two feeding standards drafted by reporter and his colleagues with their best have been examined and approved as agricultural recommendatory standards by the Bureau of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary of Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) after the standards auditing meetings in December, 2002 and July, 2003 respectively in Beijing joined by 15 experts members of Agricultural recommendatory standard auditing committee, and are expected to be issued officially for enforcement in national wide in a year.
