AIM: To evaluate the five criteria in using to diagnose the sub-type of functional constipation, and find out the better ones.METHODS: Two thousand three hundred patients with functional constipation were retrospectively studied with the five criteria. All the patients have taken the tests including Questionnaire, finger anal examination, colon transit time test, defeacography, anorectal manometry test and so on.RESULT: 1 General information: there were 405 male patients(17.6%),whose average age was 52.4+ 17.2years old and 1895 female patients(82.4%), whose average age was 46.0+ 13.5 ears old The ratio of the female patients was much higher than that of male, and the average age of female was much lower than that of male (t=-3.425, p=0.001) The number of male patients increased as the age arising; But in female patients, the majority was found in the fourth decade, and general distribution was just like normal school style.2 The diagnosis accuracy of Criteria 2 and 3 was the same, and so Criteria 4 and 5. Final result (the type of outlet obstruction constipation, the type of slow-transit constipation , and mixed type respectively) of Criteria 2 and 3, Criteria 4 and 5, and Criteria 178%, 79.6%, 73.4%, 14.4%,6.8%,16.6% 7.8%, 13.6%, 10%.CONCLUTION: Criteria 4 and Criteria 1 was strongly recommended in allusion to different hospitals.
