The most commonly seen malignant tumor in the world, gastric cancer refers to the malignant tumor arising from gastric epithelial tissue, whose mortality rate accounts for 23.02% of all death from malignant tumors, which ranks first among all malignant tumors. Characterized by evolving insidiously, the radical surgery rate of gastric cancer accounts only 35%, the 5-year survival rate of patients after radical surgery is only 50%-60%. Therefore, seeking more effective treatment methods is becoming a more urgent problem. Guided by Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) theories, based upon professor Liu Shen-lin's academic idea regarding diagnosis and treatment of gastric cancer, this paper investigated the etiology, pathogenesis, and treatment of gastric cancer from TCM point of view, tested the efficacy of Shen Yi Jian Zhong Tang in gastric cancer and studied the effect mechanism of Shen Yi Jian Zhong Tang to gastric cancer through clinical research and animal studies.By focusing on theoretic study, Part one reviews ancient TCM literatures regarding gastric cancer, analyzes the etiology and pathogenesis of advanced gastric cancer and discusses the differentiation and treatment methods through incorporating ancient TCM theories with modern medical researches.Part two summarizes professor Liu Shen-lin's experiences in differentiating and treating gastrointestinal tumor, including experiences in tongue diagnostics; experiences in treatment methods which characterized by strengthening the body resistance, invigorating the spleen and warming and inspiring Yangqi; and experiences in selecting formula and drug-pairs, etc. Two typical cases are introduced in conclusion.Part three concerns experimental study. Methods: establish rats' model bearing implanted gastric cancer; observe changes in tumor volume, body weight and VEGF index. Results: compared with model group, medium-dose experimental group, high-dose experimental group are significantly different in terms of changing of tumor volume, that of body weight and that of serum VEGF concentration; there is significant difference between group of chemotherapy combining with decoction and...
