Since the mass enrollment expansion of China’s higher institutions adopted end of last century, higher education in China has gone through the historical changes from superior education to mass higher education with diversified developing patterns and multilevel of schooling mode. Development of higher education in China is calling for education management theory innovation.Represented by Professor Su Dongshui, the principal professor of Fudan University, oriental management school has made persistent explorations and research in management and practice innovation for nearly40years. As a science of international management integrating the essence of management thoughts in all over the world, oriental management school has unique theory value and practical value. The "Three Conduct", core ideas of Oriental Management-"putting people in the first place, regarding morality as priority and behaving oneself so as to serve others", are deeply rooted from Chinese traditional culture, reflects the essence of Chinese management thoughts. It has directive value in modern enterprises management as well as the building and development of application-oriented universities.This thesis expounds on the theoretical system of oriental management and its theoretical value systematically, elaborates on people-oriented management, management of human’s moral standards and human-conducted management, three management practices comply with the core thoughts of Oriental Management, reasons the logical relevance between Oriental Management theory and competitiveness management of application-oriented universities. It explores the model framework emphasis on the basic assumption of "human-oriented". It also expounds the forming mechanism of the competitiveness of application-oriented universities, which consists of four basic elements, namely, human-oriented schooling concepts, schooling mode of people-oriented decision-making, recourses integration valuing strategic thinking and planning, harmonious service mechanism. This thesis also analyses how helper factors such as market and government affecting university competitiveness. Thus the thesis studies the competitiveness mechanism of application-oriented universities so as to structure the index system for evaluating the competitiveness of application oriented universities. The thesis proposes the strategy model framework of the competitiveness of application oriented universities and basic strategy for upgrading the competitiveness of application oriented universities.An integrated evaluation method based on fuzzy theory is used to evaluate the competitiveness of application-oriented universities positively according to the index system for evaluating the competitiveness of application oriented universities. The author chooses Shanghai University of Engineering Science, one of the modern universities with their own features designated by education ministry as well as one of the first batches of demonstrative higher institutions for excellent engineer education, as a classic case for positive evaluation to inspect the scientificalness and maneuverability of the evaluation index system and method. Detailed analysis of its active practices in upgrading its management practices innovation under the guidance of Oriental Management theory is made to reveal the universal law of competitiveness management of application-oriented universities. Based on the researches made, this thesis proposes creative strategies on how to upgrade competitiveness of application-oriented universities in such aspects as schooling concepts, schooling mode, recourses integration and service mechanism.
