Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) is generated under the background of six sigma methodincreasingly popular in all aspects of industry, the original intention of which is toovercome the defects of six sigma improvement using product/process design to improveinherent quality for six sigma or higher levels of quality. The market scale is no longerexpanding in current mature market economy, the market competition isunprecedententedly ntense. In modern commercial society, the homogeneity of productfunctionality becomes increasingly common, which results in the excellence in quality nolonger the leading factor for customer choosing products. How to outshine others in thefiercely market competition become a must question taking into account for everyenterprises. Value attracts customers, quality earns respect, and innovation differentiatesyou from the competition. Only when all these postitive factors effectively integrated intoproduct development process, the customer satisfaction can achieve, which also theinevitable requirement for DFSS project success. On the basis of existing DFSSmethodology system, the customer value oriented DFSS innovation design theory is putforward by introducing TRIZ and cutomer value theory, which called excellent DFSSprocess design system PRIDE-DFSS. At the center of DFSS approach, is a five-stepprocess PRIDE, which an acronym-plan, requirements, innovation, evaluate and execute.The new system provides an effective way of fulfilling not only integration of quality, cycleand cost, but the requirement of modern design for innovation. It can continuously providemore benefits than customer expects, achieveing customer satisfaction and DFSS goals.The main contents include the following aspects.1. The integration necessity and feasibility between DFSS and TRIZ is explored. Onthe basis of existing research results, the promoting role for TRIZ in the process of DFSSsystem evolution is analyzed from the view of technical system evolution. It draws twoaspects about the integration research, which are progressive optimization in the sameDFSS system and radical innovation between the evolutionary DFSS systems.2. The essence of DFSS design process is studied through design system informationprocessing, and the information transmission model of DFSS design process is formed. Combined with the existing DFSS process model analysis, the general process modelPRIDE for DFSS innovation fitting new situation of quality management is proposed.3. The customer value theory is brought into the study of product design process for thefirst time for gaining a competitive advantage, and the customer value oriented productdesign process is formed. According to the essence of DFSS, the value perception can bedivided into product value and process value two aspects. The required skills for promotingtwo kinds of value are also researched.4. According to the general DFSS process model PRIDE, aiming at customer valuecreation and innovation, the task and taget of each stage are decomposed. Then the toolsapplication roadmap is formed by TRIZ tools as the main line, with the propose of planningworkflow and tool selection in different stages.5. The research achievements in DFSS customer value innovation are applied to theinnovative design of button cell cathode automatic assembling machine, which verifies theproposed theoretical methods are correct and feasible.
