China’s economic future innovation power is from urbanization, and the futuredeveloping space lies in urbanization. Now, new urbanization with Chinesecharacteristics path of development and mode selection have become an importantsignificant topic of academic research. However, most of the current studiesartificially separate the study of urbanization from the study of industrial development, causing the research findings deviate from the essence of urbanization study. Therefore, focusing on the core issues of endogenous evolution mechanism betweenindustrial clusters and urbanization, and by building extra-marginal evolution model, this paper, on a theoretical level, searches for the interacting process of endogenousdynamic factors through the synergistic process. On a practical level, through somecases analysis like Dongguan and Kunshan, this thesis compacts the pathcharacteristics in the different collaborative modes. This research has an importanttheoretical and practical significance to China, which is facing industrialtransformation and upgrading issue, and is actively promoting new city construction.Studies have shown that industrial clusters and cities are the products ofspecialization. With the deepening of the division of labor, the increasing ofroundabout production, new markets are created constantly, city’s competitivenessenhanced, industrial clusters extended. However, both cluster development and cityexpansion have their boundaries. Industries transfer and city-level phenomenon willappear when the marginal transaction cost is greater than marginal division income.Because of international industrial transfer, Dongguan’s "bottom-up" urbanizationpatterns came to exist. The biggest features of this mode are Germination ofurbanization in township-clusters centric pattern and the semi-urban developmentstage. In contrast, Kunshan mode is a "top-down" collaborative process, which, having a strong administrative background and with in situ conversion of local laborforce as the start, does not produce semi-urban phenomenon. However, both caseshave a common point that they both select and introduce enterprises according to howmuch those industries related to each other, and actively construct and perfect thesocial division network of industry cluster. It is well known that industry cluster and urbanization are two different socialeconomic phenomena, which involve many disciplines and interact with one anotherin a complex process. Due to the disunity of theoretical basis, there are hardly anytheoretical achievements of coordinative mechanism of both phenomena. Furthermore, most of the previous results are conclusive analysis, which are based on the externalfeatures of evolution process. And those analyses are categorized into a normalpostmortem analysis by taking the special as the ordinary, which is not a real dynamicanalysis. Therefore, this thesis, putting industry clusters and urbanization into aunified theoretical framework, using infra-marginal analysis, proposing an hypothesiswith the basis of theoretical analysis, constructs a dynamic mathematic mode fullyrepresenting the evolution process of industry cluster and urbanization, analyzesevolution process and result, and reveals their synergistic endogenous mechanism. Inaddition, concentrating on the professional division of labor and trading efficiency, this paper establishes a comprehensive evaluation index system. Meanwhile, in viewof such situation that there are some serious colinearity and observations number lessthan variables number on the urbanization evaluation and by using partial leastsquares, this paper empirically analyzes the process of urbanization, and the findingsconfirm results’ reliability.
