Study Of Sub-regional Economic Cooperation Between Laos And Yunnan In China

Laos and Yunnan province of China are linked with mountains and rivers and national identity since ancient times.Besides, they are friendly neighbors. In 1992,Greater Mekong Sub-region Economic Cooperation(GMS) was established by Laos,China,Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and Myanmar, which was initiated by the Asian Development Bank. After more than 20 years of development, GMS has achieved fruitful results in many fields such as transportation, communication, energy and mineral resources, tourism, human resources development and cooperation,ecological and environmental protection, trade and investment, agricultural resources development and drug substitution planting and so on.Since the economic reform, the Laos has achieved great development, and obtained more frequent exchanges and cooperation with other countries, especially cooperation with China is more close;moreover,Yunnan Province is the earliest province taking part in GMS cooperation, which plays the role of the frontier and bridgehead in the cooperation.And Laos directly adjacent to Yunnan Province, which determines the Laos and Yunnan Province have more conditions and opportunities for cooperation.Yunnan and China not only have made considerable progress in the development of regional economic cooperation, but also face many challenges. In order to promote the bilateral regional economic cooperation effectively, it is necessary to carry out sub-regional economic cooperation condition, the present situation, the effect of cooperation,the potential for cooperation, the layout of spacial cooperation and evolutionary mechanism of cooperation for Laos and Yunnan Province, on this basis provides countermeasures and suggestions for the deep development of Laos and China’s Yunnan sub-regional economic cooperation.Based on previous studies, this paper analyzed the conditions and the current cooperation status of Laos and Yunnan sub-regional economic cooperation with the historical research method, statistical method, literature research method, then uses the quantitative method to evaluate the effect and potential of the economiccooperation between Laos and Yunnan. And then it discussed the current cooperation and the future development of the cooperation. Based on the above cooperation effect,the formation and evolution mechanism of cooperation between the two sides are explored. Finally,this research put forward the countermeasures and suggestions for future bilateral cooperation.This paper is divided into nine chapters, each chapter is as follows:The first chapter is the introduction, which mainly expounded the background and significance of the research,.In order to enrich the research basis,this chapter summarized the related research literature,and finally determine the research ideas,research methods and research contents of this thesis.The second chapter is the basic concepts and theoretical basis. On the basis of previous studies, this chapter analyzed and defines the relevant concepts in the paper,in particular, it summed up and studied the relevant theoretical basis for the analysis of the text to be prepared.The third chapter is the analysis of geographical basis of Laos and Yunnan sub-regional economic cooperation, separately from the natural geographical basis(topographic features, climate, hydrology, resource),the human geographical foundation(political geography foundation, geographical foundation, national culture and geographical basis, tourism resources, traffic facilities resources),and the economic geographical foundation(historical economic base, industrial development foundation). Then it makes a brief summary of the complementation between Laos and Yunnan Province on the above aspects.The fourth chapter is the analysis of the current situation of Laos and Yunnan.Firstly, this chapter summarized the development process of Laos and Yunnan sub-regional economic cooperation from four cooperation stages, then it considered the current situation of Laos and Yunnan.Finally,it pointed out some problems in Laos and Yunnan sub-regional economic cooperation.The fifth chapter is the effect analysis and potential assessment of the current sub-regional economic cooperation between Laos and Yunnan. The first section used regression analysis model to analyze the economic effects of the sub-regional economic cooperation between Laos and Yunnan. The second section is to evaluatethe potential of cooperation, and to predict the potential of cooperation with the trade gravity model. The results show that there is still a lot of space for improvement in the economic cooperation between Laos and Yunnan.The sixth chapter is the spatial layout of the economic cooperation between Laos and Yunnan, which is divided into five sections. The first section used Arc GIS software to find the spatial distribution and regional direction of the two sides, and then summarized the regional direction characteristics of cooperative projects and made some suggestions of the adjustment of regional direction.The second section gived a brief introduction to the main port and channel layout. The last three parts is the research of cooperative form between the two sides,mainly contained the Cross Border Economic Cooperation Zone, the important development of open pilot area and the cooperation of Yunnan and Laos in northern nine provinces. First of all, this three parts made a brief review of the development process and the status.and then analyzed its positive significance,at last, they put forward the suggestions for optimization and improvement.The seventh chapter is the research of the formation and evolution of the subregional cooperation between Laos and Yunnan. Many factors lead the development of the sub-regional cooperation of the Laos and Yunnan, forming the driving force mechanism and promoting the cooperation between the two sides.This chapter mainly studied the formation and evolution mechanism for the cooperation of the Laos and Yunnan, which mainly included the factors of the formation of the sub-regional cooperation, the formation of the driving force mechanism and the evolution mechanism in the process of spatial evolution and so on.The ninth chapter is the summary and prospect of the research, this chapter is mainly summarized this paper, and put forward the direction of further research and space layout optimization. Space layout structure optimization is mainly concentrated on the port and channel, cross-border economic cooperation zone, Mohan developing and opening test area, the cooperation of Yunnan Province in China and nine provinces in northern Laos and other aspects.The ninth chapter is the summary and prospect of the research, this chapter is mainly summarized this paper, and put forward the direction of further research.
