The paper argues tile theoretical issues of sustainable development in the mode of ecosystem to understand the system of sustainable development Using for references in the theories and methodologies of Urban Ecology and Industrial Ecology, the paper discusses the urban sustainable development issues on the obstacle factors, assessment systems and practical pattern under the structure and function of urban ecosystem. The whole text includes four parts.The part of Exordium introduces the fields and theoretical progresses on Urban Ecology. From the ideas of ecology in urban to Urban Ecology and its development, the Urban Ecology shows strong characteristic of interdisciplinary all the tune. The ideas of urban ecology came from thinking about the relationship between human and environment, and the Urban Ecology gets development from using for references the relative disciplinary, so it is possible and necessary for die Urban Ecology and Geography using for references each other. The frontiers of urban ecological research include: Industrial Ecology, Built Ecology and Life Support System Ecology.Chapter I discusses the issues about development of urban ecosystem. Session I based the theoretical analysis of sustainable development, points out it is a the systematic issue and should be understood in the mode of ecosystem; Sustainable development is a new paradigm which is built on ecological civilization, which goal Human Being ensues is the Recycled Society, and Industrial Ecology points out a road towards sustainable development of Human Being; Sustainable development should consider regionality, Urban lies in core of a region and the key of regional sustainable development is the urban sustainable development; Essentially the issue of urban sustainable development is one of structure and function of urban ecosystem, it is necessary to deepen understanding the structure and function of urban ecosystem. Session n based on deeply understand the structure and function of urban ecosystem, points out the features of urban ecosystem which are, the anthropocentric, high openly, ill-functional and mankind-control ecosystem; Creates the analyzing frames of material flow on urban ecosystem and points out the obstacle of sustainable development of urban ecosystem lies in the linear metabolism pattern.Chapter n comments the assessment system of sustainable development of urban ecosystem. Session I analyzes me measurement of development and the indicators system and methodology of sustainable development, points out that indicators of sustainable development play role not only as criteria, but also as supervisor to lead sustainable development, and ft is necessary to establish the assessment system based on processing; Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) provides the idea to assess the processing, its analyzingframe would be summarized: Goal and Scope Definition, Inventory Analysis, Life cycle Impact Assessment, Interpretation,- As the management tool to improve the material metabolism of urban ecosystem, LCA establishes the relationship between material metabolism and environment impact, enriches the theories and methodologies of material flow on urban ecosystem. Session II, from physical basis of sustainable development, sets forth the assessment theory of material efficient on sustainable development, takes dematerialization and material intensity of use as references, discusses the measurement of total material use, the material accounts of national economic and the and the analyzing method of material efficient; Based analyzing resource-environmental Kuznets Curve and Ecological Threshold, further to analyze the impacts of technological progress, environment policies and regulations, taxes and incentive factors on material efficient.
