| Traditional Chinese medicine Flos Lonicerae (Jinyinhua),a common-used herb for clearing away heat and toxic material, has a long history. issued in 2000 years stipulates that the sources are the dry flower buds of Lonicera japonica Thunb, L. hypoglauca Miq., L confusa DC. and L. dasystyla Rehd., family Caprifoliaceae, but the varieties of Jinyinhua used by doctors of traditional Chinese medical science are far more than that, and the most of them are produced in Sichuan province southwest China. Sichuan province is one of main producing area of Jinyinhua in China, but the varieties used here are in chaos, that is to say, several varieties are usually planted in one place or appear in one batch of goods. The phenomenon is unfavorable for the quality control of this important traditional Chinese medicine. Therefore it is great in need to study them deeply and systematically. The thesis reported the studies on the varieties and the quality.Progress in studies on Jinyinhua has been summed up, in which progress in textual study on ancient Chinese medicinal literatures, the varieties & identification and chemical constituents of every species etc. was been summed up for the first time.The variety of traditional Chinese medicine Jinyinhua recorded in ancient Chinese medicinal literatures has been studied newly. We pointed out that the characteristics recorded in ancient Chinese medicinal literatures-"flower white,stamen purple", "rattan square", "flower yellow first, white later" etc.-are not accord with the ones of L japonica Thunb. or any other plant of Genus Lonicera. The variety recorded in ancient Chinese medicinal literatures in Nouth Song Dynasty and before it is not quite clear. The variety used in South Song Dynasty and after it ought to be L japonica Thunb.,but simultaneously, the other possibily can not be ruled out.The distribution and medicinal parts of 12 species and 3 varieties of Jinyinhua in Sichuan province have been reported by conducting field and market, collecting specimen, taxonomic study and consulting related data. Jinyinhua uncultivated spreads all of theSichuan province, taking a low ratio among commodities,in which the cultivated one takesmajority, and most of them produce in Nanjiang county. The main variety of Jinyinhua in Sichuan province is L similis Hemsl.The identification of varieties of Jinyinhua in Sichuan province has been studied by the botanical and macro scopic characteristics. According to our observation, the variation of the botanical characteristics in some varieties of Jinyinhua is big, and the macro scopic characteristics of each variety of Jinyinhua are also variable in some degree. The characteristics of the sub-leaf epidemics of the plants have been observed and compared by scanning electronic microscope.lt was found out that the micro characteristics are important in a sense for identification the varieties.The constituents of volatile oil from dry flower buds of L hypoglauca Miq., L acuminate Wall, and L similis Hemsl. var. omeiensis Hsu et H. J. Wang were studied by GC-MS technique for the first time. It showed that the main chemical component is palmitic acid The relative contents are varying from28.71% to 49.27%. The other constituents and the contents have much difference for different samples.The contents of chlorogeruc acid and luteolin of 6 varieties of Jinyinhua in Sichuan province have been determined by HPLC respectively. The results showed that the contents in the varieties of L. similis Hemsl. and L nacranthoides H. -M. cultivated in Sichuan province are a bit higher than mat of the variety cultivated in Mixian county Henan province. The contents in variety of L acuminota Wall, cultivated in Sichuan province are equal to or a bit Iowa than that. The contents in the variety of L. similis Hemsl. var. omeiensis Hsu et H. J. Wang uncultivated in Sichuan province are much higher than that. The contents in the other varieties of uncultivated Jinyinhua in Sichuan province are far lower than mat of the criterion (...
