ObjectiveThis randomized controlled clinical research adopts the clinical epidemiological methods, clinical research methods and statistical methods. It takes acupuncture therapy and pure Chinese Medicine therapy as comparison and observes the clinical curative effect of applying catgut embedding therapy to cure simple obesity. It discusses the difference of the clinical effect and functional mechanism of the three therapies and provides the basis for the clinical treatment of simple obesity.MethodsThe research has 150 patients of simple obesity who were treated in Huang Guorong's Chinese Medicine clinic in Taiwan from February 2009 to December 2009 and who met the case selection standards. Divide the patients into three groups with 50 in each group at the rate of 1:1:1. Four weeks make a period of treatment, and there are 2 periods in total. After every two weeks, measure patients'height, weight, BWH (bust, waist and hips), BMI, F% and other obese indexes. Measure blood and biochemical indexes like GLU, Ins, TC, TG, HDL-C, and LDL-C, etc and the curative effect. Before and after the treatment, check the safety indexes.Use software EPIDATA 3.1 to set up the database and use software SPSS 15.0 for statistics and analysis. The measurement material is expressed by (?)±S and the numeration material by constituent percentage. For the interclass comparison of the measurement material, take F test (for heterogeneity, take Kruskal-Wallis H rank sum test); for the interclass multiple comparison, take q test (Newman-Keuls); for self circa comparison, take the t pair test or Wilcoxon pair rank sum test. For the interclass comparison of the classified material, takeχ2test. For the interclass comparison of the ranked material, use Kruskal-Wallis H rank sum test. Draw the statistics graphs with software Graph Pad Prism 4.03.ResultThis research collects 150 cases with male 79 and female 71; age:21-56; disease course:4-23 years. The Catgut Embedding Group has 50 cases (male 23, female 27), the Acupuncture Therapy Group 50 cases (male 32, female 18), and the Chinese Herbal Medicine Group 50 cases (male 24, female 26). The average age of the three groups is 45.72,41.83 and 43.63 years and the average disease course is 9.91,10.11 and 8.89 years.Catgut Embedding Group has significant curative effect for simple obesity treatment. It can effectively lower patients'BWI, F%, waist measurement and hip measurement and has positive adjustment function for Ins, TC, TG, HDL-C and LDL-C. Its total effective power is higher than the other two groups and has more advantages in improving the above indexes than the Acupuncture Therapy Group. Catgut embedding therapy costs less time and needs treatment every three weeks with little trauma and no anesthesia and less pain. It overcomes the defects of the traditional acupuncture therapy:multiple treatment times, poor compliance of patients, etc. This method has good compliance and is an effective, quick, economical weight-reducing therapy with lasting effect and no toxic or side effects.ConelusionBased on the clinical results, the catgut embedding therapy can cure the simple obesity noticeably. It can adjust the serum TC, TG, HDL-C, and LDL-C level, balance the metabolism of fat and achieve the goal of reducing weight. It is an effective method for simple obesity and deserves being popularized.
