A Study On The Clothing Words Of Dunhuang Manuscripts

Dunhuang Manuscripts is one of the four academic discoveries in the 20th century. Dunhuang Manuscripts has inestimable value to the study of language and social life of Tang and Five Dynasties. The majority of the Dunhuang Manuscripts are simultaneously materials such as economic materials, folk literature, childish materials, and prayer. These materials, written by the users of those days, can reflect the real language use and the dress style of those days vividly. So the Dunhuang Manuscripts are priceless not only to the study of names and descriptions of things, but also to the research of clothing history.We, for the first time, in this paper classify and study of the clothing words of Dunhuang Manuscripts comprehensively. The paper consists of two volumes, one is a general introduction, the other is a study of words on the clothing words of Dunhuang Manuscripts. In Chapterâ… , Volumeâ… , we give the definition of the clothing words firstly and point out that the clothing words should include three categories in the broad sense, that is, name words, wearing words and clothes color-words. Then we look back the general research situation in recent years, and confirm the research materials and methods. The characteristics of the clothing words, such as the writing characteristics, the cultural characteristics, thoroughly stated in Chapterâ…¡. In Chapterâ…¢, based on the concrete usages of the clothing words from the Dunhuang Manuscripts, we point out that Dunhuang Manuscripts have the important corpus value. And then, we propose the value of the study to the Dunhuang study, to the study of Chinese in middle ages, to the research of fashion history and to the compilation of dictionaries. Chapterâ…£, the last chapter of this volume, discusses the constitution and the application of the clothing words emphatically. So, Chinese noun double syllable evolution in Tang and Five Dynasties as well as the rich cultural implication in the name word is reflected completely. In volumeâ…¡, we classify the clothing words into four categories:head dress, body clothes, foot clothes and accessories (including makeup), and give them detailed textual criticisms.
