The Dazhidulun(大智度论)(the Mahaprajnaparamitasastra)with a total of 100volumes is the interpretation of the Mahaprajnaparamita(摩诃般若波罗蜜经),it was written by Nagarjuna(龙树菩萨)and has been translated into Chinese by Kumarajiva(鸠摩罗什)in 402 AD. It is the most important material to study the Mshayana Buddhism and India’s ancient culture.This paper aims at making a literature review and folk characters collection of the Dunhuang manuscripts on the Dazhidulun.Firstly,we find that there are 452 pieces of Dazhidulun manuscripts after a widely survery of Dunhuang papers.some of them have been studied by the scholars.This article aims to make a detailed discussion of the 79 volumes which have not been studied by academics.Secondly,we investigate some unnamed fragments of volumes from 11 to 17 of The Russian collection of Dunhuang literature, and 159 of them are named as Dazhidulun. Thirdly,There are a lot of pieces of Dazhidulun manuscripts which can be put together into a whole,and we integrate 97 segments into 48 series in this article.Lastly,by means of the variant database system,we collect the folk characters into a word table which the predecessors have not been studied.The word table includes orthography, pronunciation, variant glyphs, provenance and example sentences,in order to show a complete folk characters’ appearance of Dunhuang manuscripts on The Dazhidulun.
