As the whole Chinese missionaiy enterpnse, medical missionary enterprise is complex. It comes to china with western fort~es, so it has relations with the capitalism. As a cultural enterprise, medical missionary enterprise not only has thick religious character, but also has thick temporal character. These characters decide that when medical missionary influences china positivel); it also acts as an invasive tool.But everything is changing. Under the influence of modern Chinese nationalist movement, Christian adapt to china actively. In this course, medical missionary enterprise had a trend to cooperate with Chinese society, to adapt to china, to become temporal. So it抯 political and religious colour fades, it has a good relationship with Chinese society These also decide that medical missionary enterprise takes an active part in the Chinese modernization. This thesis takes a narrative research in the Chinese medical missionary enterprise during the period from 1835 to 1937. This thesis also gives a concrete discription of the development and social influence of Chinese medical missionary enterprise, furthermore it points out the influence of the chinese medical nissionary enterprise in chinese modernization.This thesis has three parts, such as introduction, main part; and the conclusion. The introduction is about why to choose this research and what have been done in this field, it also gives an explanation of some important words. The main part has two parts including six chapters. The first two chapters are about the origin, development and changes of the medical missionary enterprise. The following four chapters are respectively about the research of the medical missionary enterprise抯 influence on modern Chinese politics, cultural exchange bewteen Chinese and the Occident; chinese thoughts and custom, medical and charitiable enterprise. At the end, the thesis gives a further research in the reasons of the Chinese medical missionary抯 duration and influence The contributions of this thesis are the following: (1) By using new material, the thesis gives an active research in the development; changes and its influence, embodying the changing character of history.
