Recluse is a kind of notion and behavior resulting from the official system, which influence the scholar-officials, even the Chinese psychology widely and profoundly. The research on the recluse vogue and Tang-poetry is a new as well as old topic. The hermits and the recluse-poetry of China has been exiting from the ancient times till today, for that we say it is an old topic. Meanwhile, when it comes to the current situation of the research, it is a pity that there are still few important monographs on the recluse vogue and Tang-poetry. Some scholars had discussed the topic, but their research had not fully touched the relation between the Recluse Vogue and literature at a certain period. The thesis, On the Air of Hoping for Redusion, written by Wang Yao is precise and penetrating, but the visual angle was limited in Wei-Jing period. The reasons for the present writer's research on the Recluse Vogue and Tang-poetry lies in the following aspects: Tang Dynasty is the turning point between the prosperity and the decline of the feudal society, and serves as a link between past and future obviously. Similarly, the Recluse Vogue in Tang Dynasty had turned from the former disobedient and unconventional reclusion to the official-reclusion and also from the external nature to the internal world. The more important is that the Tang-poetry influenced by the recluse vogue had great influence on the literature of later ages. In a word, the lack of depth and width of the research on the field is my foothold to carry on this topic. The introduction explains, firstly, the extent and object of research and defines the concept of reclusion. Broadly speaking, reclusion is a kind of cultural accumulation. Narrowly speaking, reclusion is a kind of notion and behavior resulting from the official system, which is the research object of this thesis. It includes the levels of subject, behavior and spirit. Furthermore, the introduction assesses the current situation of research, advances the idea for the research on the recluse vogue and Tang-poetry, emphasizes the significance of the reclusion to the scholars and the poetry in Tang Dynasty and points out the importance and necessity of research the relation between reclusion and Tang-poetry from the visual angle of culturalology. The first chapter interprets the cultural background of the prevalence for the recluse vogue in Tang Dynasty. By investigating the deep emotion, the author shows that it is the dynamic drive that the hermits were awarded the courteous reception by the Tang governors. Secondly, this chapter demonstrates the function of imperial examination system on the prevalence for the recluse vogue in view of three aspects. Thirdly, this chapter regards the wide-spread Taoism and Buddhism as the theoretical foundation. Finally, this chapter points out that, as the financial guarantee, the private gardens made the reclusion in Tang Dynasty filled with leisurely, but not dreary mood. The second chapter sets forth the change course of the reclusion in Tang Dynasty and shows the lurking cultural and historical reason from the different style of the reclusion at the different periods. The reclusion in early Tang Dynasty formed a connecting link between what came before and what went after. The reclusion in High Tang Dynasty is the high-tided period, which absorbed the earthy desire for obtaining an official position after reclusion. In the Middle Tang Dynasty, the social background made the reclusion change from the political pursuit to leisure, from the career to inner mood. In the Late Tang Dynasty, the reclusion declined. For the turbulent situation and the official circle's corruption, the scholars took the reclusion as their shelter. Meanwhile, they still owed the political dream, yet the contradiction between the social reality and their dream brought them depressed grief. The third chapter draws the outline of the popularity of Reclusion Vogue in Tang Dynasty at the beginning. On the one hand , reclusion produced great impact on every rank in the country. On th...
