A Study On Wang Zhao

Mr. Wang Zhao is a key moderate reformer in the modern history of China,whose reformative thought that education is considered as a foundation governs his exposition and actions in all his life. He positively participated the reformation and became a famous man by exposing six officials of protocol department during 1898 reformative movement. He participated the other reformative activities,too. There was cooperation between Kang Youwei-Liang Qichao and him,but there were different opinions,too. Kang Youwei-Liang Qicao thought that the reformation of political system was the most important thing,and Wang Zhao looked education as the most important thing;Kang Youei-Liang Qichao carried out the policy that they wanted to help the emperor and suppress Cixi empress dowager,Mr.Wang Zhao didn't think so.After the coup d'etat,Mr. Wang ran away with Kang and Liang to Japan,in order to rescue Guang Xu emperor and oppose Cixi empress dowager's plot to depose Guang Xu emperor. Having come back to his motherland in 1900,Mr. Wang put his life at risk to recover Gung-xu's power. Differing from the simple loyalty to a throne at feudal times,Wang's aim is to maintain Guang Xu as the flag of reformation and continue to struggle with squares,so it is progressive.In Japan,Mr. Wang was apart with Kang and Liang. From then on,Kang and Liang insisted on moderate rformation and opposed violent revolution. Mr. Wang recognized the importance of the pepole in social reformation and popular education,so he made Chinese mandarin letter and positively encouraged vernacular 'Chinese education and common pepole education. He greatly contributed to reformation of Chinese characters and popular education. At the same time,considering the need of education,he sympathized with 1911 revolution.From 1911 to 1933,Wang stressed that education is the only way of saving the nation,and lashed out at warlord,and agreed with Sun Zhong-shan's policy of peacefully unifying China. All these are his progressive behavior. But his leading thought is against socialism. He criticized Sun Zhong-shan and Yan Xi-shan as socialists. He also criticized Liang Shu-ming,because he thought Liang's theory of countryside constuction is unfit for his view that he looked education as the only way of saving the nation. He agreed with Hu Sh's theory of reformation step by step.Generally speaking,before 1911 revolution,Wang Zhao was a progressive reformer after that.He was a peaceful reformer against democratic revolution.Wang Zhao is a patriotist who advocated saving the nation by education. But because he kept a lot of feudalism in his thought,he didn't keep pace with his times at last. His tragedy rests with that he didin't know that democracy revolution against imperialism and feudalism is the only way of saving the nation.
