The Media's Moral Maxim

Human Beings and the media are naturally integrated. Scholar Mike Ham declared that media is "the extension of human body." As the continuous growth in society, science and technology, mass media is making large progress as well. News trade has a rapid development and becomes a new "bright spot." It is dramatically influencing our economy. At the same time however, problems are exposing. For example, some propaganda activities merely chase profit but ignore principles. Moral problems in mass media become more and more obvious. The rigorous fact tellsusthatignoringmediaethicsandmediamoralitywillseverely affect andhinder the growth of our press trade; also it will influence the existence of mass media. People always say that journalist is an honorable occupation that protects the conscience of our society. This statement is actually an ethical request to the media and news culture. It also means that media are requested to express certain moral notion. In addition to providing reliable facts to people, media can also explain and judge the ethical essence of these facts. Therefore media standardizes and guides people to look for surviving significance and seek for their goals. Nowadays, the moral patternofourcountryisinaperiodoftransferring.Theoldmoralvaluesystem isfacingthechallengeofbeingchanged,yetthenewsystemhasnotbeen completely established. Even on judging some basic moral value, such as "good" and "evil," people have concept uncertainty and opinion difference. Media's impact on human lives, especially moral lives, is greater now than ever before. At certain extend, mediahas huge moral obligation on building up the good societal attitude and moral view. Infact,the globalization ofpropaganda is becoming a world trend. Therefore reinforcingtheestablishmentofsocialistnewsethicsisturningintoanurgentmission. Tous,thistaskisnotonlytherequirementofadaptingtothenewsocialcircumstances, but the demand of socialist spiritual civilization as well. In the mean time, it can also prevent and break the cultural hegemony from western developed countries. The thought of media ethics ought to become a subject that we have to pay close attentionto;moreover,itneedstobeemphasizedasatheorywhichensuresthemedia stayingintherighttrack.Baseonthistheory,theessayfocusesitsvisiononexamining the intersection of media and ethics culture, the news ethics culture. This paper is composed of eight sections including a preface and seven chapters.The preface gives a brief account of the relationship between media and human lives, theeffectofmedia'smoral education, and thepresent condition andproblems while constructing the culture of ethics.Chapter 1: Instruction of the News Ethics Culture. It analyzes the connotation, attribution, function and characteristics of news ethics culture, and it explores the significanceoftheculture.WhatisNewsEthicsCulture?Itisanewsworkinfiltrating andreflectingthenotionofethics.Itstudiesthespecificformationandmanifestation of ethics notion in news culture. Its ethics attribution is expressed by propagating the facts that closely relate to people's lives and by showing the belief and the desire that drive human beings developing forward. Therefore certain system of ethics notion is formed in propaganda activity, and we can use this system to judge and guide the reflected facts, eventually attain our ethics goal. The function system of news ethics and the function system of social ethics are commonly structured. They all have the functions of cognition, regulation, encouragement, guidance and judgment etc.. .News ethics has some typical attributes. The ethics is assembling, intermediate, economic, regional etc... In fact, the significance of examining news ethics culture is its effect to the entire propaganda activity.
