Novel: In The Film Era

With the advent of the film-TV, there came into being an interactional relation between the novel and the film-TV. On the one hand, the novel has provided the film-TV with a great deal of artistic nourishment so as to accelerate the course for the film-TV to become a type of art. On the other hand, because film-TV had a strong influence on the novel, the novel had to adjust its system to its environment. On the former there are a great deal of achievement, while there are still much to do on the latter, which is just what the dissertation want to do.From the visual field of film-TV, the disquisition made a profound research on the state of existing, the manner of creating, the skill of writing, the manner of reception and of the novel by studying the relation between the novel and film-TV and analyzing the novel text. The novel is helpful to the film-TV and the film-TV can make the novel change. From the viewpoint of the novel's state of existing, the novel has to live on the film-TV because of its pressure, which is produced by the predominance of communicating with watching and listening, for the film-TV's media supremacy and reception might has come into being. As a result, the novel's aesthetic worthiness and artistic function changed. From the viewpoint of creating, traditional novel's creation is a genius activity with great individuation and should keep to the creating rule, while the modern film-TV's creation is a collective action and should obey the cultural industry principle. If the novel follows the film-TV, it means that the novel's creation has some characteristics of the cultural industry. The consequence is that two types of novel style are produced: follow the film-TV type and surpass the film-TV type. During the course of the creation, the artistic skill is greatly important. So we had a microscopic analysis on the text of novel by intensive reading in order to found that sound, color, light, motion, montage and other film-TV art elements have a close relation with the modern novel, which can prove that film-TV art has greatly influenced the modern novel. About novel reading, reading had been novel' s traditional reception way. With the development of film-TV, a new reception way that is seeing and hearing came into being. Since then, novel' s reception means a close relation between the two ways. About novel criticizing, the film-TV art offered the novel a new critique, which can estimate the novel according to the concept, category system and method of the film-TV art. As a new critique, the film-TV art should pay more attention to the text, the novelists' activity about the film-TV art and the novel' s progress. It shows a new tendency of the novel' s criticism in film-TV era. The conclusion is that the interactional situation of the novel and film-TV art shows not only the state of being actual but also that of future.
