The study of intentional forgetting is another experimental pattern of memory study, it is an effective way about thinking control research. The forms of table and word are usually used , mainly investigating internal mechanism of the phenomenon in the experiment: the memory record of study item indicating forgetting is poorer than that of indicating memory. There are two main theoretical explanations at present, one is based on encoding and the other extraction inhibition. Meanwhile, the differences in developing ability presented by different ages during the process of intentional forgetting become a hot issue of study and argument in the cognitive psychological field. In dealing with Ihese problems, this paper will adopt multifactorial experimental designs and tabular form, strictly control experimental material to explore the internal mechanism and developing characters of different age groups in the process of intentional forgetting. And then it studies internal mechanism and ability presented by the students with different school record in specific group in this process. The third part's experimental result of the research, through strict selection and control of the four types of experimental materials, investigates the inner mechanism and competence development of intentional forgetting process of three children groups of the third-year, fifth-year elementary students, first-year junior high school students and undergraduates under irrelevant material, resemblant material, homophonic material and synonymical material.. The result finds that the undergraduates have abilities of both encoding and extraction inhibition of forgetting item. The above three children groups have only encoding inhibition ability. This shows that extraction inhibition ability is produced only on the condition that the cognitive ability develops to a certain level. The result also discovers the material of cognitive inhibition ability and the materials indicating memory and forgetting presents negative relevance. The closer the relationship between the materials of memory item and forgetting item, the harder to inhibit, and the weaker the easier. Differences in inhibition ability of different materials exist in the developing process of individual; the development of irrelevant and resemblant material is slower than that of synonymical and homophonic material. The fourth part's experimental result finds no differences in the inhibition process of intentional forgetting between top students and students with poor study performances. Both inhibit the encode of forgetting item and have no extraction inhibition ability. In the three experimental materials of irrelevance, resemblance and homophony, the inhibition ability of top students is better than that of students with poor study performances. In the synonymical material, the former students' abilities are worse than those of the latter students, while the former can use synonymical relation more effectively, and their memory records are better than the latter. The characteristics or novelty of this research lie in: Firstly, the choice of topics are rather new. The research work of intentional forgetting has just started and remains to be conducted, which has gradually become the focus of international research of cognitive psychology. Secondly, for the first time integrate explicit memory and implicit memory in experimental tabular form to explore the inner mechanism of intentionalforgetting. To prove it in two respects makes the result more reliable. Thirdly, for the first time make use of four types of comparative experimental materials to examine the cognitive processing mechanism of ongoing intentional forgetting process on four ranges of ages in Ihe experimental research.. The construction of the model of intentional forgetting process clarifies the cognitive processing pattern of intentional forgetting process, which has never seen abroad. Fourthly, in terms of application, investigations are made during the intentional forgetting process with four types of experimental m...
