In order to analyze contemporary visual culture philosophically, this dissertation focuses on visual metaphor, the turn of space and the relationship of both, And then, reveals visual metaphor hidden in visual culture and inclination of the turn of space lied in western thoughts and learning since the latter half of late 20~th century. The dissertation includes introduction, main body of five chapter and conclusion. The introduction consists of the problems to which contemporary aesthetics has to face, the scholarship state, topics, materials and methods relevant to this dissertation. The first chapter points out, whether in China or west, the eye as the best of facial features is treated most importantly by human thoughts all the time. By two kinds of the eye distinguished by Plato, the eye of mind is made to be the only, the most perfect way to Idea which is the whole of the true, the good and the beautiful. Along with Plato's Idea developing finally into ultimate essence searched by the tradition of Metaphysics which takes the dominant role in western thoughts, the eye enters western Metaphysics and is used to refer to all qualities which is relevant to ultimate essence.
