A Study Of Ba'th Socialist Theory And Practice

Ba'th socialist theory is an indispensable part of the nationalism of the Middle East and the main thought of Ba'th party, but there are few studies on it both at home and aboard. Based on Ba'th socialist theory and practice, the author takes Iraq and Syria as examples to display the track and features of Ba'th socialist theory and practice.The dissertation includes three parts: preface, the main body and the conclusion.In the preface, the author mainly presents the aim and meaning of the subject, summarizes the relevant achievements, and states the writing methods and the innovation of this dissertation.The main body includes five chapters:In Chapter One, the author mainly states the origin of Ba'th and its development,with the summary of the main features of Ba'th. The author regards that the emergence of Ba'th is the outcome of intercourse between West and Islam civilization.Ba'th is one of the thoughts that are formed by western socialists under the influence of Islam. In fact, it is a new thought combining Arab tradition with western socialist thoughts.In Chapter Two, the author analyzes the pan-arabism of Ba'th Party from the point of view of the four times unities of Ba'th Party which are Arab United republic,The Tripartite Unity Talks and the two unities of Syria and Iraq. From the above-mentioned analysis, it can be seen that pan-arabism has less affected Arab World and the ideas of sovereignty have aleady attracted the people of Arab world. By the end of 1970s, the state nationalism had replaced pan-arabism. The united plans is the tool that the rulers divert crisis and control other countries.In Chapter Three and Chapter Four, the author analyzes Ba'th party practise from politics, economy and ideology of Iraq. It is assumed by the author that the Ba'th party politics of early times is not stable whose base is rather weak.Iraq Ba'th party gains power by revolution, and strengthens power by forces. By 1970s, Ba'th party had controlled Iraq with Tikrite clan as the core of the political structure. After the Iran-Iraq war,there are only two ways for Ba'th party to overcome difficuty.Sadam can either recover Iraqi economy or invade othercountries .Sadam chooses the latter and wants to invade Kuwait. As to the economy of Ba'th party, it isn't clear. It is prefered to be said as economical principles rather than the dark mode of economy development. There are Three features of Ba'th party ideology .Firstly, pan-arabism has replased nationalism; Secondly, Iraq is made up of different races and nation and Iraq is a part of Arab civili2ation.Thirdly, the emphasis from Ba'th party to Sadam who becomes symbol of collective lead.In Chapter Five, From aspects of political development, economy revolution, international relations and national mentality, the author analyzes the impact of globalization on Ba'th . Although Ba'th adjusts it in almost every aspect, the result is far away from the aim of globalization. It displays unconsciousness, compulsion and innate weakness in practice as well as lack of cohesion, compatibility and rejuvenescence in theory.In future, Ba'th socialism should impove itself and adapt the development of society.The conclusion analyzes the reason that Ba'th fails in Iraq together with the chance of and challenge for Syria Ba'th party. The dissertation states that the failure of Ba'th Party in Iraq does not mean Ba'th Party will die out and the survival of Syria Ba'th party will prove its existence. The trend of Ba'th socialism is as follows.On the one hand, it will exist in Syria and take impact on the Middle Eastjon the other hand, it will be limited and adjust itself. In future, Ba'th socialism should affiliate with other thoughts and merge the tide of globalization.
