The thesis gives a metaphysical interpretation of Wang Chuanshan from Ji 际, the implicated foundation of his philosophy. Starting from the essential experience that human is in the middle of Heaven and Earth, Chuanshan discussed systematically Heaven, Earth, human as well as the Middle, i.e., Ji. Based on the exploration of these discussions, the thesis develops a philosophy of ji in the light of which the Chinese traditional proposition of the Ji of Heaven and human shows its new significance in the contemporary philosophical discourse. In this philosophy, Ji firstly functions as a relationship characterized by identity or similarity (xiangji 相 际), difference (fengji 分际) and interactivity (jiaoji 交际) at the same time. The philosophy then claims that Ji in essence means that the Ji of Heaven and human is the most original phenomenon for human being, which, however, is so easily ignored that a list of illusionary doctrines such as naive materialism or idealism, various epistemological theories of reflection come into being. It is also the ignorance of the Ji of Heaven and human that induces people to believe that the role of a word in language is to refer an object in the real world, a proposition is true if and only if it is in accordance with the reality, and the ultimate target in interpreting a text is the discovery of its original meaning.
