Modern Transformation Of Motion Picture Arts

In 1980s, Chinese movies transformed greatly. The significance lies in two: first, as a kind of form of art, its essence and meanings have had qualitative transformations. On one hand, it has cast away the alienation caused by extreme left-wing politics and returned to be rational objective from political implement, and thus it appeared to be modern renaissance. On the other hand, the conception of drama being the noumenon of movies has been replaced by that of images. Therefore, Chinese movies have taken on a glowing outlook from within. Secondly, in 1980s, Chinese movies have got the essence totally identified as a trinity— mixture of art form, culture and commodity, which has altered people's long-term narrow and one-sided ideas about movies and found the scientific basis for the development after that.This thesis analyzes the historical process, specific characteristics and multiple motives of Chinese movies of 1980s from the changes of trend of thoughts about Chinese movies. At the beginning, the thesis generalizes the patterns and tracks of movie thoughts' transformation in 1980s diachronically and horizontally and points out the destination that has been pursued by Chinese movie- makers.
