This thesis compares the love stories written by female writers in Korea and China. There is not only comparable similarity but also differences in different culture backgrounds between the two kinds of love stories. Thus, the thesis should concentrate on both similarity and differences, especially the different culture background and national character. Because different native literature shows different cultural tradition, this thesis studies not only the similarity but also the difference in the way of analogy and comparison. Thereby, the further study can be made on the national and cosmopolitan literature levels. With the increasing economic exchange between Korea and China, the intercourse between the two peoples and cultures become more and more frequent. Furthermore, the study of Contemporary Culture of Korea and China will enhance the mutual understanding on values, love, beauty and happiness, etc. It also contributes to a better understanding of the role literature played nationwide and worldwide.The first part of this thesis will be a study of the entirety of the love stories written by Korean and Chinese female writers in the 80's and 90's of 20th century, which related to aspects of character, sex and love. The second part is a study of the cultural background and the tendency of love story's development at that time.The female characters in those novels can be divided into three categories: the rebellious female, the confused female and the submissive female.Firstly, the rebellious female: The rebellious female were strongly against feudal ideology and tried very hard to pursue their dreams. However they were different in Korea and China. In the 80's and 90's of 20th century, the numbers of rebellious female characters were much higher in Korea. Because around the time of the May 4th Movement (1919, an anti-imperialist, anti-feudal, political and cultural movement influenced by the October Revolution and led by intellectuals having the rudiments of Communist ideology), in order to pursue free love and love match making, females in China often stuck to their own opinion and said no to society. As time passed, females in China of the later part of the 80's and 90's of 20th century did not have to strive against society for free love and match making based on love.
