The stone tomb-door is an important part of tombs. This thesis reviews them within the whole burial system, covering the shapes of tombs, funerary objects, murals and the burial appliances such as the outer coffin, coffin bed, and epitaph. As a preliminary analysis, the writer discussed the characteristics of different regions and periods of them, and further researches on their historical, artistic and cultural background.Tombs with stone doors of the Northern Dynasties and Sui-Tang dynasties have been discovered mainly in political centers or economic-cultural developed regions, such as the capital of the Northern Wei Dynasty, the capital Yecheng of the Eastern Wei Dynasty and the Northern Qi Dynasty, Chang-an and its' environs during the Northern Zhou Dynasty and Sui-Tang dynasties, the Jinyang area of the Northern Qi Dynasty, the Shandong region of The Northern Qi Dynasty and Sui Dynasty, the Luoyang area of the Tang Dynasty, the Guyuan areas of the Tang Dynasty, and so on.By means of archaeological methods, this thesis makes analyses upon the shapes and images of the stone doors during the Northern Dynasties and Sui-Tang Dynasties, and differentiates all the materials by regions, periods and types. Based on the evolvement of the stone door and the history background, the period can be devided into seven phases.
