This dissertation aims to focus on the theme of"nationalized forms", start from the discussions on drama in the period from late 1930s to early 1940s, and illustrate the background, course, influence, historical implications and modern enlightenment. The author also hopes to probe into the relations between modernity and nationality and tries to find a way out on the issue of"nationalized forms"of drama.The background of the discussions on"nationalized forms"of drama is multiplied. First of all, it rose with the spirit of saving the nation in the past century. Secondly, the focus and function of drama since the breaking out of anti-Japanese War have altered. Thirdly, the perception of nationalized drama with modern implications has grown mature. The discussion starts in Yan'an, then had a impassioned echo in Kuomintang ruled region, it has a great different influence in the produce and performance of drama in Kuomintang ruled region with a center of Chongqing and in Liberation area with Yan'an as center. Since mainstream literature notion of Yan'an is different from some notion from the discussion rose in Kuomintang ruled region, it transforms between different extent and form of drama's practical move and operation both in Kuomintang ruled region and in Liberation area, two drama mode which is different but related come into being , and finally run to one spurred by many factors. The discussion is a milestone, which is not a simple retrorse transition, but a internal countermeasure of modernistic blue print in the May 4th Movement period. It also has a negative effect ,while a new drama notion is revealed primarily through the discussion. What the discussion's modern enlightenment is ,restricted by the condition, the participator haven't realized that modernity and nationality of drama are two sides of one paper, are dialectic and uniform in the category of"voluble modernity". Instrumental reasoning is emphasized to such a great extent that a variation in the notion of drama appears. Some other factors lead to the result as well. The situation changed thoroughly until new era, it is the new atmosphere of society, history and art in new era that made a fairly perfect solution of the theme of"nationalized forms".The discussions on modernity and nationality of Chinese drama develop together with the growth of Chinese drama itself in the 20th century. In one word, against the backdrop of globalization, modernity and nationality are inseparable. Chinese drama today should grow and initiate on that very basis.
