The Study On The Structure Of The Need Of Self-esteem

The need for self-esteem is one of the most basic meed to human and play an important dominant role in person's life, so it has been paid close attention by lots of researchers. Because of the modernity, distinctness and importance of the need for self-esteem,it is been the object of this study. Be relatively deficient in the study of the need for self-esteem and been inspired by the structure ideology this study chooses the structure of the need for self-esteem as key research. The study wants to resolve three problems around the structure of the need for self-esteem: what are it's compositios, what characters do the factors have and what characters does the structure of the need fou self-esteem have. There are seven subordinate questions need to be answered to resolve those three problems. So the study projects seven researches and chooses 2200 college students as subject to answer those seven questions and uses the methods of document,investigation, natural expriment, longitudinal research and trans-culture research, and adopts various analytical methods of data, such as correlations analysis, factor analysis, regression analysis and linear analysis etc.. Thus the study gains many important discovery which is relative to the structure of the need fou self-esteem and draws some valuable conclusions.1. The study obtains a theory hypothesis of the composition of the need for self-esteem through constructing the theory, which is that the need for self-esteem is composed by the whole need for self-esteem and the concrete need for self-esteem. Among them, the whole one contains three composition such as the need for self-value etc., and the concrete one contains four composition such as the need for bodily self-esteem etc., or five composition such as the need for self-improvement.2. In the mass idea, the composition of the need for self-esteem contains ten fields such as self-approval, seeking to do others down etc. and each field also includes the whole and the concrete contents. The investigation especially aimming at concrete need for self-esteem obtain some more detailed informations correlated with this. They relatively tally with the structure hypothesis of the concrete need for self-esteem.3. The study obtains a positive model of the structure of the need for self-esteem: the need for self-esteem consists of two elementary factors __ the whole and the concrete need for self-esteem, between which are hierarchical. Among them the whole one is formed by four subordinate factors and the concrete one is formed by three subordinate factors __sixteen pretty factors, such as pursuing social superiority.4. Among the factors of the whole need for self-esteem the self-attention tendency and self-approval preference seldom connect with other needs, but there is obvious step occurrence, deficient, pursuit from the outside world, and derivation of senior need in the ideal of value and ability and the pursuit to importance; There is similar and more obvious character in the factors of the concrete need for self-esteem, but the self-defence tendency is difficult to derivate senior need. 5. The effect of the whole need for self-esteem and it's structure factors is more obvious and more positive, and the factors of self-attention tendency and self-approval preference are more conspicuous. Among the factors of the concrete need for self-esteem the function of the self-surpass motive is similar as what the factors of the whole one have, but the effect of pursuing social superiority is more complex and the effect of self-defence tendency is more negative.6. The structure of the need for self-esteem tends to be stable on the side of time. The ideal of value and ability and the self-attention tendency show obviously linear descent under natural conditions. But they will show obviously rising after meeting with stimulation, espcialy defeat, the other two factors of the concrete need for self-esteem are all obviously rising.generally the whole need for self-esteem and the concrete need for self-esteem tend to steady.7. The factors of the need for self-esteem are rather identical under the background of Chinese culture, but have lower identity under Greek culture. The level of the factors especially those of the whole need for self-esteem has less difference on the fields of sexual distinction, origination and minority nationality, but more difference under the overseas Chinese culture.
