Four-Character-Structure-Oriented Approach To The English-Chinese Translation Of Secrets Of The Mind(Chapters 1 To 24)

This report is an English-Chinese translation practice report,summarizing problems and putting forward solutions in the process of translation of The Secrets of The Mind.The source text is a philosophical prose with two functions including discussion and sentiment,which specifically describes how to reshuffle the mind and improve the conscious brain,and how spreading happiness can bring happiness to one's own life.In essay texts,parallel structure,which is commonly seen in the text,generates an important effect with a sense of rhythm,the salience of content,and the power of the wording.Therefore,how to translate the parallel structure of the source text is a difficulty in the translation process.The translation report covers five parts,which are introduction,task description,translation process,case analysis,and conclusion.The first three parts mainly introduce the background of the task,including the analysis of text and parallel structure,as well as the introduction of linguistic features of four-character structure.The fourth part is the case analysis,which is the core part of the translation report,mainly focusing on summary of the problems encountered in the translation,which is the parallel structure in words(noun and adjective),and phrases(noun phrase and verb phrase).The translator analyzes the logical relationship in parallel components,as well as parallel components and other components.Then translation skills such as word-of-speech conversion,amplification,combination and word-order adjustment are used to translate the parallel structure so as to make four-character structure.Finally,the equivalence would be achieved with the language style of original text.In the process of this translation practice,the translator has a more profound understanding about parallel structure,and masters its translation methods and skills.In the meanwhile,it also deepens translator's understanding of four-character structure.The translator hopes these methods will provide some help for the translation of philosophical prose.
